The Youth Services Institute (YSI) is committed to serving youth involved in juvenile justice and child welfare systems. An entity within UA’s School of Social Work, YSI is a source of innovative treatment programs, collaborative partnerships, and research endeavors.

YSI oversees the operation of three programs serving children, youth, and their families — the Working on Womanhood (WOW) program, the Continuum of Care Program (COCP), and the Trauma Systems Therapy (TST) program. Through partnerships and agreements with the Alabama Department of Youth Services (DYS), Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR), several county juvenile courts throughout the state, and leading practitioners throughout the state and beyond, YSI aids in the areas of:
• Program development and implementation
• Treatment consultation
• Practitioner training, development, and supervision
• Training needs assessments and the provision of training sessions
• Diversion grants and requests for proposals
• Program evaluation
• Grant proposals
• Research endeavors and data collection
