Sibling sexual abuse cases are complex. Everyone involved has a role in ensuring safety, supporting well-being, and promoting healing. From initial contact to case closure, professional actions are crucial. This training addresses some of the realities of sibling sexual abuse, real-world challenges and questions about separation and reunification. It offers guidance for your role in supporting safety, well-being and healing throughout your involvement. The session aims to provide tips and assistance for your work, with questions and discussion welcomed.

  3. Develop skills in determining whether separation is necessary to ensure safety

Restoring Hope: A Clinician’s Guide to Helping Families Heal After Sibling Sexual Abuse

Sibling sexual abuse is complex. This training is designed to provide helpful information to support proactive responses and evidence informed approaches, strategies and interventions in our work involving sibling sexual abuse.  Highlights of what we know about sibling sexual abuse will provide a foundation for our discussion. The training focuses on real world realities including common questions, challenges and barriers. The question of separation is addressed including its impact. Considerations for and the process of reunification are examined in depth. The goal is for you to leave feeling supported and better equipped to address sibling sexual abuse.  Questions and discussion are welcomed and encouraged.

Goals and Objectives:

  • Identify evidence informed strategies and interventions in cases of sibling sexual abuse to support healing.
  • Recognize circumstances that indicate the need for separation when sibling sexual abuse occurs.
  • Develop individualized plans to accomplish reunification goals with families.
