Back to Basics: Thinking About the Role of Trauma and Helping Relationships with Adolescent Clients

Have you ever worked with “difficult,” “resistant,” or “uncooperative” youth and families? Join Dr. Debra Nelson-Gardell with the University of Alabama School of Social Work as she explores the impact of trauma and its effect on the families and clients we serve. This training will incorporate types of trauma and how it can, and often does, affect teenage clients and their families’ engagement with professionals. Traumatic experiences, particularly developmental trauma, can impact all stages of the communication process. In this workshop, Dr. Nelson-Gardell will share expertise to support professionals as you navigate those obstacles and barriers. This training is intended for professionals who work in juvenile justice, child welfare, and school – based interventions but is also open to any professional who works with youth.

Snacks and beverages provided. Participants are responsible for their own lunch.
